Abstract:

Superconductivity in REBCO is governed by charge doping in the CuO2 planes, which is most commonly achieved via oxygen doping in the CuO chains. Up to now, research was focused on the under- and optimally doped region, due to practical limitations in reaching the overdoped state, despite being highly interesting for fundamental and applied aspects as competing orders vanish and critical current densities are expected to peak.

In this talk, I will discuss the cuprate phase diagram and motivate the study of oxygen kinetics in YBCO thin films using in situ techniques, supported by catalytic agents. Our experimental results demonstrate the strong impact of increased charge doping on superconducting properties, leading to very high critical current densities (90MA/cm² at 5K). Further, I will discuss my current efforts at Neel on the characterization of REBCO tapes and I will conclude with a teaser on a promising new route to reach the overdoped state.

Next scheduled seminars are:

  • Thursday 13 February: Manuel Núñez-Regueiro (Institut Néel), « Magnetic field sorting of superconducting graphite particles with Tc > 400K »

  • Thursday 13 March: Claire Marrache Kikuchi (IJCLab, Orsay) to be confirmed
