Founding labs

The Grenoble Electrical Engineering Laboratory covers the whole spectrum of electrical engineering science, from materials to systems, from processes to actuators, from micro systems to large power systems, from production to usage of electrical power.

Institut Néel is a laboratory for fundamental research in condensed matter physics, enriched by interdisciplinary activities at the interfaces with chemistry, engineering and biology.

The Interdisciplinary Research Institute of Grenoble (IRIG), created on January 1, 2019, conducts research in biology, health, nanosciences, cryotechnologies and new technologies for energy and the environment. Physicists, chemists, biologists, doctors, computer scientists, and mathematicians jointly participate in this fundamental research and the applications which result from it, giving the institute a remarkable capacity to respond to major societal challenges.

The Interdisciplinary Laboratory of Physics (Laboratoire Interdisciplinaire de Physique) has largely turned its activity towards the interfaces of physics with other disciplines, especially life sciences and environmental sciences, mechanics or applied mathematics. Physics at LIPhy is seen as not being restricted to a particular field of application: it is a general method of approaching complex phenomena, based on innovative instrumental developments, quantitative modelling, theoretical and numerical analysis.

The LPMMC is a joint research unit in physics grouping diverse theoretical competences under the supervision of the Université Grenoble Alpes (UGA) and of the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS). The laboratory is mainly oriented towards theoretical condensed matter and quantum physics.

The French National High Magnetic Field Laboratory (Laboratoire National des Champs Magnétiques Intenses) is a host laboratory for experiments in high magnetic fields. Based on two sites, LNCMI offers to the international community static magnetic fields at its Grenoble site (LNCMI-G) and pulsed magnetic fields at its Toulouse site (LNCMI-T).
